Covela Vinho Verde Rosé Wine 2024
Covela Rosé is Rui Cunhas take on a more gastronomical take on a Vinho Verde rosé. Made from 100% Touriga Nacional grapes, from a vineyard in granit soils on the banks of the Douro river. The vineyard is low in altitude and is shaped like a amphitheater facing south, which has a slight cooler microclimate. Harvest is done by hand, followed up by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Aging in stainless steel tanks on the lees for 4-5 months.
A very elegant rosé, with dominant malolactic notes and a slight touch of marcipan. Fresh acidic red berries and light mineralic structure. A good match with cheese and specifically mold cheese.

Als Marcelo Lima und Tony Smith 2011 die Quinta de Covela erwarben, holten sie als Weinmacher Rui Cunha ins Boot. In Baião, im äußersten Südwesten der DOP Vinho Verde mit Blick auf den Douro, keltert Cunha seither gleichermaßen frische wie komplexe Weißweine. Hier ist die Rebsorte Avesso zuhause und gedeiht auch die knackige Arinto vorzüglich; aus der roten Touriga Nacional entsteht ein ungemein eleganter Rosé. In der Erntezeit werden die Trauben von Hand gelesen. Diese Sorgfalt mag ein Grund für die erstaunliche Lagerfähigkeit sämtlicher Weine aus dem Hause Covela sein, das für Biodiversität und organischen Anbau steht.
