"Duckman" Duck Ray - a Bairrada pet nat from Luís Pato
Like father, like daughters. Not only Filipa, but also Maria has a knack for fine wines. Her "Duckman" range pays homage to her grandfather João (1920-1984) and is also an art project dedicated to her home region of Bairrada. And the funky contents are just as unusual as the bottle design: pressed from the baga, fermented for 5 days on the skins in stainless steel and then poured into the bottle with 10g of glucose. Neither disgorged nor filtered, just a pet nat. With lots of minerality and flint, unconventional and fresh.

The Pato family has been producing wines in Bairrada since the 18th century. Luis Pato pressed his first wine in 1980 and has since become a pioneer in the region and the undisputed master of the Baga grape. Many innovations can be traced back to him: destemming Baga grapes, aging in French oak, planting ungrafted vines, and so on... Today, Luis Pato has 60 hectares of vineyards on sandy and loamy-calcareous soils south and west of Sangalhos. “For us, producing wine is not only a passion, but also a pleasure.”
