PORTUGAL
The first humans settled in the fertile landscape around the present-day district town of Ponte de Lima as early as the Palaeolithic Age. The cooperative of the same name was founded in 1959 and has been producing crisp, fresh Vinhos Verdes ever since. The grapes for the crisp white and red wines come from nearly 2,000 local producers in the surrounding area, many of whom have been associated with the Adega for decades. The white grape varieties Loureiro, Arinto and Trajadura, as well as the red Vinhão, are ideal for the light and sparkling wines that have made northern Portugal internationally famous.
