Adega Belém Lisbon Espumante Encruzado Extra Brut
David and Catarina demonstrate what an excellent sparkling wine grape Encruzado is with their Espumante extra brut. Fine, beautifully integrated acidity, yet very aromatic with mild spice. Made from grapes from the Vinha da Tapada da Ajuda vineyard owned by the University of Lisbon. Only 1745 bottles were produced.

In Lisbon's Belém district – home of the sweet pasteis de nata – David and Catarina purchased an old car repair shop after completing their joint oenology studies, which they spent years restoring into their wine cellar and meeting place. In 2020, the entire harvest was pressed there for the first time. The white grapes come mainly from small plots in Monsanto City Park (but also from the courtyard garden of the nearby university); the reds come from the Alenquer sub-region, north of the capital. They are all hand-picked when the time is right. All wines are fermented spontaneously, at carefully controlled temperatures and with minimal intervention. The cool labels were designed by their daughters Ana Lula and Sofia. Adega Belém is open to interested visitors for tours, tastings or simply a light snack.
