In mittlerweile fünfter Generation steht die britisch-portugiesische Dynastie der Symingtons wie wenige andere Namen am Douro für höchste Portwein-Qualität. Unter dem Familienbanner sind die altehrwürdigen Häuser wie Dow's, Graham's und Warre's vereint - ein Erbe, das verpflichtet. Aber auch neue Wege werden eingeschlagen, etwa im Joint Venture mit der französischen Bordeaux-Legende Bruno Prats, der auf der Quinta da Roriz mit seinem Chryseia einen Spitzenwein von internationaler Klasse keltert.

Usually overlooked vintage that can surprise you.

Solid cork medium sediment (needs filtering). Deep cherry red color. Wonder aroma of black currant, dark cherries and blackberries with a light earthy floral. On the hard palate black currant, orange peel and spices. It quickly leaves the hard palate slightly dry. The soft palate is filled with blackberry and cherry that really open up with a light acidic bite. On the tip of the tongue you can really taste the black currant on the tip of the tongue, along with a vanilla spice and caramel. The middle of the tongue transitions to pipe tobacco and dark chocolate. The back of the tongue has a rich tobacco flavor. The finish is short and dry, yet fulfilling.
I normally overlook 1980, however I may have to go back and see what else I have been missing.
