Portonic-Glas

Portonic

Portonic (also Port Tonic, Portotonic)

The Portonic is a refreshing (summer) cocktail made from white port and tonic water. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to trace its exact origins. We first came across the Portonic in the 1990s. At that time, the Instituto do Vinho do Porto was selling a Portonic long-drink glass, which Sophia Bergqvist from Quinta de la Rosa bought for us in Porto.

The recipe: equal parts white port (or rosé) and tonic water (we prefer a ratio of 40:60), crushed ice, lime or lemon, and one or two mint leaves.

Depending on how sweet you’d like your Portonic to be, choose a combination of port – ranging from sweet to less sweet – and dry or sweet tonic water.
