Olive oil, which is often of very high quality and is consumed in large quantities in the country, is little known outside Portugal. The salt pans on the Portuguese coast, which produce an excellent sea salt, were once famous throughout Europe. Only canned fish from Portugal has never lost its well-deserved reputation.
