Wine from Algarve
The Algarve has been an extremely popular holiday destination for decades. No wonder, with 3000 hours of sunshine a year. However, this did not bode well for viticulture, which the Phoenicians once introduced to Portugal's southernmost coastal strip over two and a half thousand years ago: many vineyards had to make way for the construction of new hotel complexes and golf courses, also the quality suffered considerably. It is therefore really pleasing that a number of exciting new start-ups have recently set out to polish up the battered reputation of this once prestigious region.
