Wine from the Setúbal peninsula

In the south of Lisbon lies the Península de Setúbal, a popular recreational area for stressed-out capital city dwellers and classified as a contiguous wine-growing region in 1907. Despite the hot summers, the proximity to the Atlantic provides a certain freshness, while the winters are comparatively mild. The region is known for its aromatic white wines and fruity rosés. Among the red grapes, the Castelão is king - with round fruit, soft tannins and great ageing potential.
