2019 Vinha Pan, Luis Pato, Bairrada
Luis Pato's Espumante Vinha Pan is a captivating sparkling wine with aromas of nuts, dried fruit and herbs. A Blanc de Noirs made from Baga grapes, with no added sulphur.
"Colour: Bright straw yellow with slight coppery reflections and steady perlage.
Nose: The nose is initially dominated by delicate roasted notes reminiscent of light brown toast with butter and orange marmalade. This is followed by aromas of red berries such as raspberries and red currants, underpinned by delicate roasted autolysis notes and dried apricots. The wine, made from 100% Baga, was bottled without dosage or added sulphur, giving it its herbaceous, spicy and wild nose.
Palate: Captivating with a powerful mousse and firm bite on the attack, it combines expansive autolysis notes of salty pastries with aromas of nuts and dried fruit on the palate. Balanced by delicate herbal spices, it is flanked by mellow tannins that lend it contour, seriousness and drinkability. An espumante that effortlessly transcends the aperitif situation to reach true greatness at the table."

The Pato family has been producing wines in Bairrada since the 18th century. Luis Pato pressed his first wine in 1980 and has since become a pioneer in the region and the undisputed master of the Baga grape. Many innovations can be traced back to him: destemming Baga grapes, aging in French oak, planting ungrafted vines, and so on... Today, Luis Pato has 60 hectares of vineyards on sandy and loamy-calcareous soils south and west of Sangalhos. “For us, producing wine is not only a passion, but also a pleasure.”
