Baga Bairrada Luís Pato Vinha Barrio
One of the last vintages from the old vines of Vinha Barrio before the Oís do Bairro site was replanted at the beginning of the 2000s. The clay soil typical of Bairrada is heavily interspersed with chalk here, and the wines are characterized by slightly higher acidity and softer tannins. Aged for 12 months in new and used 500- and 650-liter Allier oak barrels, bottled unfiltered. The enormous aging potential of the Baga grape is evident here in all its lasting freshness and elegance. A red wine that is ripe now, but will also reward another 10 years of patience in the cellar.

The Pato family has been producing wines in Bairrada since the 18th century. Luis Pato pressed his first wine in 1980 and has since become a pioneer in the region and the undisputed master of the Baga grape. Many innovations can be traced back to him: destemming Baga grapes, aging in French oak, planting ungrafted vines, and so on... Today, Luis Pato has 60 hectares of vineyards on sandy and loamy-calcareous soils south and west of Sangalhos. “For us, producing wine is not only a passion, but also a pleasure.”
