Taboadella Jaen 2021 - an Iberian border crosser at Dão's lofty heights
There is no doubt that Portugal has an enormous wealth of grape varieties. But it is equally true that grapes know no borders. Jaen is an apt example, known as Mencia among its Spanish neighbours, it has long since found its Lusitanian homeland in Dão. At Taboadella, it occupies the top spot at a lofty 530 metres above sea level, the highest location on the quinta. Matured for nine months in fresh and used barriques (20:80 ratio) and with a lean 13% alcohol. A fresh yet expressive tinto, full of blue fruit, floral notes and subtle spice. Great with poultry and vegetarian dishes.

Im Herzen des hügeligen Dão, Portugals ältester abgegrenzter DOC, liegen die Weinberge von Taboadella. Wie archäologische Funde belegen, wurden hier bereits in römischer Zeit Weine gekeltert; seit dem Jahr 1255 ist das Gehöft bei Silvã de Cima aktenkundig. Auf 42 Hektar, extrem granithaltigen Böden und teils hundertjährigen Rebstöcken entstehen heute konzentrierte Rot- und Weißweine aus den klassischen Rebsorten der Region.
