Taboadella Alfrocheiro 2021 - the mysterious tinto grape from Dão
It came out of nowhere. After the phylloxera devastation, the Alfrocheiro grape appeared in the Dão region at the end of the 19th century - and no one really knows where it comes from or what other vines it is related to. Alfrocheiro needs quite a few metres of altitude and a lot of care, which it undoubtedly receives at Taboadella. Here, the grapes grow at 490 metres on granite soil that cools down considerably at night. Aged for 10 months in new barriques (20%), the remaining 80% of the barrels house their second harvest. Dark cherry, fine spice and lots of forest floor. A wonderfully delicate tannin structure and a slim 13% alcohol. A red wine full of character.

Im Herzen des hügeligen Dão, Portugals ältester abgegrenzter DOC, liegen die Weinberge von Taboadella. Wie archäologische Funde belegen, wurden hier bereits in römischer Zeit Weine gekeltert; seit dem Jahr 1255 ist das Gehöft bei Silvã de Cima aktenkundig. Auf 42 Hektar, extrem granithaltigen Böden und teils hundertjährigen Rebstöcken entstehen heute konzentrierte Rot- und Weißweine aus den klassischen Rebsorten der Region.
