Quinta do Vale Meão Douro Superior Monte Meão Vinha da Cantina Baga 2023
Originally native to Coimbra, the Baga grape was long cultivated at Quinta do Vale Meão under the synonym Tinta Bairrada, on the granite single vineyard Vinha da Cantina. Hand-picked, not destemmed and only partially pressed. Fermented and aged in used 500-litre barrels. An extremely elegant Baga with fine earthy spice notes and excellent ageing potential.

Quinta do Vale Meão
5150-501 Vila Nova de Foz Côa
PORTUGAL
When the grande dame of port, Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, acquired an impressive 300 hectares near the Spanish border in 1877, she laid the foundation for one of the most exciting quintas Portugal has to offer. North of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, the Douro River meanders, creating three different soil formations: stony alluvial, granite and slate combine to form a unique terroir covering 98 hectares of cultivated land. Since 1998, Dona Antónias great-great-grandson Francisco de Olazabal and his son of the same name have been producing outstanding quality wines here. The red grapes ripen in individual plots, are fermented separately and then blended into cuvées. The single-varietal tintos from Monte Meão also impress with their concentration and extraordinary elegance.
