Adega Belém Lili Cellar Dog 2023 Red Wine Lisboa
Lili the Cellar dog is not only the name of Beléms entry level red, it shares name with the family's dog that patrols the wine cellar. Belém is renowned for their low intervention style, and Lili is another great example of their ability to express elegance through their wines.
A blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet and Castelão, all from vinyards in Alenquer right by the delta of the Tejo river. After harvest are the grapes fermented together on big stainless steel tanks, and are afterwards aged in the same vats. The wine is not stabilized, and is bottled after 6 months in the steel tanks.
Deep red/purple color, slight reduction, with a very expressive nose. Notes of fresh dark berries, blackberries, blackcurrant and a hint of tobacco. A very elegant red from the Lisboa region perfect for red meat, grilled fish or just to enjoy sligthly chilled.

In Lisbon's Belém district – home of the sweet pasteis de nata – David and Catarina purchased an old car repair shop after completing their joint oenology studies, which they spent years restoring into their wine cellar and meeting place. In 2020, the entire harvest was pressed there for the first time. The white grapes come mainly from small plots in Monsanto City Park (but also from the courtyard garden of the nearby university); the reds come from the Alenquer sub-region, north of the capital. They are all hand-picked when the time is right. All wines are fermented spontaneously, at carefully controlled temperatures and with minimal intervention. The cool labels were designed by their daughters Ana Lula and Sofia. Adega Belém is open to interested visitors for tours, tastings or simply a light snack.
