Located in Estremoz, in the north of the Alentejo region, wine has been produced on the estate for more than 150 years. Júlio Bastos began marketing his wines in 1988 and entered into a joint venture with the Rothschild family in 1992. At the turn of the millennium, he sold his shares and, after acquiring new, suitable vineyards, brought in the first harvest of his new project in 2003. This was matured in the estate's restored and expanded wine cellar. Right from the start, Dona Maria wines received great acclaim from connoisseurs and critics alike.
