"Duckman" Maria Duck – Pet Nat from Luís Pato
Like father, like daughters. It’s not just Filipa; Maria also has a knack for fine wines. Her "Duckman" range pays homage to her grandfather João (1920–1984), whose spirit – resurrected in 2018 – officially serves as the winemaker here.
Made entirely from Maria Gomes grapes grown on sandy soils. Fermented with the skins in stainless steel for five days, then bottled with 10 grams of grape sugar. Extremely juicy, very floral on the nose, subtle bitter notes, passion fruit and honeydew melon, invigorating.Unfiltered, no dosage – just as the god of wine loves his Pet Nat.

The Pato family has been producing wines in Bairrada since the 18th century. Luis Pato pressed his first wine in 1980 and has since become a pioneer in the region and the undisputed master of the Baga grape. Many innovations can be traced back to him: destemming Baga grapes, aging in French oak, planting ungrafted vines, and so on... Today, Luis Pato has 60 hectares of vineyards on sandy and loamy-calcareous soils south and west of Sangalhos. “For us, producing wine is not only a passion, but also a pleasure.”
