Quinta do Regueiro-Produtor de Alvarinho de Melgaço, Lda
Coto Alvaredo
4960-010 Melgaço
Quinta do Regueiro is a small producer of Vinho Verde, in the north of Portugal. Founded in 1990, the winery has produced some of Portugal's most recognised and award-winning wines from Alvarinho and Trajadua. Vinho Verde is considered by many to be a type of wine, but in reality it is an area that covers about 13% of Portugal's vineyards. The Vinho Verde style of ‘green’, young and slightly bubbly wines is still around, but it is rapidly retreating.
After some initial years of tending the neglected vines on the purchased parcel, Quinta do Regueiro sold the grapes to negociants. It wasn't until 1999 that the winery itself was founded and bottled wines under its own label. Today, the winery has several parcels, but is still a very small boutique winery with only 6 hectares of land in total. The annual production is just under 40,000 bottles.
The wines from Quinta do Regueiro are made in as natural a process as possible, the wine is made in the field and not in the winery. This is evident in the clean, mineral yet intense flavours of the wines. The Vinho Verde wine style is in many ways similar to the Galician wines from Rias Baixas, as they share both the Alvarinho and Trajadura grape varieties, as well as sandy and granite soils.
