The master of the Baga grape
The Pato family has been producing wines in Bairrada since the 18th century. Luis Pato pressed his first wine in 1980 and has since become the pioneer of the region and undisputed master of the Baga grape. Many innovations can be traced back to him: destemming the baga grapes, ageing in French oak, planting ungrafted vines and more... Today Luis Pato has 60 hectares of vineyards on sandy and clay-limestone soils to the south and west of Sangalhos. ‘For us, making wine is not only a passion, it is also a pleasure.’
